NHTSA Urges Automated Driving System Developers to Improve Law Enforcement Interactions

On July 8, 2026, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Administrator Jonathan Morrison issued a letter to developers of driverless automated driving systems (ADS), urging them to prioritize improving automated vehicles' interactions with law enforcement. The letter encourages developers to ensure that automated driving systems can safely and effectively respond to traffic stops, emergency situations, and other interactions with first responders.
