Insurer-Owned Repair Shops

ASA opposes insurance companies having an ownership interest in automotive repair facilities and views such interest as being in direct conflict with the consumers' right to choose.

ASA has historically supported the consumers' absolute, unequivocal right to choose a repair facility for a collision or mechanical repair.

In keeping with this official position statement, ASA has established this section of our legislative Web site for independent repair shops and the motoring public to be better informed of any legislation regarding insurer-owned repair facilities in their state. As more states introduce legislation, ASA will provide ongoing reference material in this section.
