Agenda includes ASA's Celebration of Excellence, AMI Graduation.

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced its 2008 annual convention will be held May 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, Calif. All members are encouraged to attend the event, which will consist of numerous association business meetings.

The agenda includes the ASA board of directors meeting; a State of the Association address by Ron Pyle; an affiliate assembly meeting; and ASA's annual Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony, which will feature the AMI graduation ceremony.

EPA Publishes Final Auto Refinishing Regulation
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released the final rule for paint stripping and miscellaneous surface coating. This regulation enacts national emission standards for area sources engaged in paint stripping and various surface coating operations.

Specifically included in the regulation are stricter requirements regarding toxic standards for smaller emitting sources in three industry sectors: paint stripping operations, surface coating that involves paints containing metal hazardous air pollutant (HAP) compounds, and auto body refinishing. B.J. Johnson, VP of Membership Services, ASAASA Names Johnson Vice President of Membership Services
B.J. Johnson, a 19-year employee of the Automotive Service Association (ASA), has been promoted to vice president of membership services.

In her new role, Johnson will continue to assist members and provide ongoing communications between ASA and its 16 affiliate groups. Johnson will also administer ASA's approved member benefit services, as well as oversee membership retention and recruitment strategies. To read the full story, click here.

Allstate Insurance Company Files Appeal to U.S. Supreme Court
Allstate Insurance Company has filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in regard to the Texas statute prohibiting insurance companies from owning collision repair shops. The Automotive Service Association (ASA) also has filed a response.

The appeal comes after the U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit, New Orleans, affirmed the District Court ruling in the case of Allstate Insurance Co., et al., Appellants-Appellees vs. Greg Abbott, Etc., et al., vs. Automotive Service Association, et al on Aug. 1, 2007. New Jersey Rejects 'Right to Repair' Legislation
The 2007 New Jersey General Assembly session has ended without consideration of A 931, the so-called "Right to Repair" bill. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Alliance), the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) commend the New Jersey Assembly for rejecting this legislation.
