ASA Leaders Meet with Insurance Reform Bill Sponsor

H.R. 1880 Includes Federal Charter for Property and Casualty Insurance

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 4, 2009 —During last week's Capitol Hill Fly-In, hosted by the Automotive Service Association (ASA) in Washington, D.C., collision repairers got an opportunity to meet with the sponsor of a key bill on insurance reform.

ASA leaders met with Rep. Melissa Bean, D-Ill., sponsor of U.S. House Bill 1880, which establishes optional federal insurance regulation for insurers. ASA supports H.R. 1880. This legislation, for the first time, reaches beyond life insurance lines to include property and casualty insurance.

Co-sponsoring the bill with Bean is Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif. Collision leaders thanked Bean for her efforts to secure federal regulation for property and casualty insurers. Bean and Royce are members of the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over insurance reform.
