Colorado Governor Issues Executive Order
Targeting Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Vehicle Emissions Regulations to Be Proposed
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 29, 2008 - Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) marked the Earth Day celebration by issuing three executive orders as part of his Climate Action Plan. One executive order issued a standard for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, the standard set a goal of a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions statewide by 2020 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will create requirements for the largest greenhouse-gas emitters to measure and report their emissions levels. The department is also required to conduct studies and propose regulations to reduce vehicle emissions.
The other executive orders establish an agricultural sequestration offset program and a climate advisory panel for the state.
