Receive Legislative Awards
BEDFORD, TEXAS, May 25, 2007 - The Automotive Service Association (ASA) presented two Legislative Awards at the association's Celebration of Excellence May 5 in Nashville, Tenn. The ASA Legislative Award recognizes those who have made an impact on legislative and regulatory activities throughout the year. The recipients were both ASA affiliates - ASA-Colorado and ASA-Washington.
The first Legislative Award was presented to ASA-Colorado for its tireless commitment to educate their congressional representatives about information availability and their opposition to proposed Right to Repair legislation.
"From its show of support by contributing to congressional re-election campaigns, to its efforts in reaching out to Washington through letters, e-mails and phone calls, ASA-Colorado has gone above and beyond expectations to inform Congress and their fellow shop owners about the current state of service information availability," said Bill Haas, ASA's vice president of education and training, who emceed the event.
The second Legislative Award went to ASA-Washington for its continued focus on important industry issues and for being an example of the difference one group of individuals can make when they share a goal and focus on accomplishing it.
"Displaying the strength of ASA members when working from the grassroots up, ASA-Washington led the way to halt the encroachment of California-type super-warranty legislation in the state of Washington," said Haas. "Although super-warranty legislation has been successful in several states, Washington repairers were successful in explaining their opposition to their representatives."
The awards were presented by Ron Nagy, AAM, Nagy's Collision Center in Wooster, Ohio, and chairman of ASA's Government Affairs Committee. Don Seyfer, Seyfer Automotive in Wheatridge, Colo., accepted the award on behalf of ASA-Colorado. Jeff Lovell, AAM, executive director of ASA-Washington and Mike West, Southtowne Auto Rebuild, Tukwila, Wash., accepted the award on behalf of ASA-Washington.
The Celebration of Excellence awards dinner and ceremony was held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. The next Celebration of Excellence will be held during the ASA Annual Convention May 1-3, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif.
