Johnson, Stander Receive Chairman's Award of Excellence

BEDFORD, TEXAS, May 25, 2007 - Steve Johnson, Number One Tire and Service, Warwick, R.I.; and Dan Stander, Jerry Stander's Collision Works, Littleton, Colo.; were the recipients of the Chairman's Award of Excellence presented during ASA's Celebration of Excellence May 5. The awards were presented by Charlie Elder, AAM, outgoing chairman and owner of Ray Gordon Brake Service, Tallahassee, Fla., for their contributions to the association and the industry.

Johnson, vice president of ASA-Rhode Island, was honored for his work addressing an issue that affected his state's auto emissions and safety inspection program.

"In the midst of a legal battle involving the state and a test supervising contractor, Johnson exhibited true professionalism and became the industry voice who worked with the state to help find resolution," said Elder.

Stander received the Chairman's Award of Excellence for his contributions to the collision industry.

"By sharing his ideas and working through the communications channels of the association, he led the initiative that introduced three new communication tools to the collision repair professionals of our industry," said Elder. Stander played a key role in the development of ASA's three refinish process guides addressing blend vs. new, LKQ vs. new and repaired vs. new panels. The free guides help shops address these issues as they communicate with insurance representatives.

The Celebration of Excellence awards dinner and ceremony was held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. The next Celebration of Excellence will be held during the ASA Annual Convention May 1-3, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif.
