Missouri Senate Bill Would Abolish Vehicle Safety Inspections

ASA Encourages Repairers to Express Opposition

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 21, 2007 - The Automotive Service Association (ASA) continues to reach out to Missouri repairers to oppose a bill that would end the state's motor vehicle safety inspection program. Missouri state Sen. Charlie Shields, R-District 34, has introduced legislation (S. 17) that would abolish the state's inspection program, excluding the St. Louis metropolitan area and school buses.

ASA opposes repeal of the Missouri vehicle safety inspection program.

This is not the first time a legislator has attempted to end the state's motor vehicle safety inspection program. In the previous session, Sen. David G. Klindt, R-District 12, offered an amendment to state Sen. John E. Greisheimer's, R-District 26, legislation, S. 583. Klindt's amendment would have repealed all safety inspections for vehicles in Missouri. Although Greisheimer's legislation passed, Klindt's amendment was not included.

ASA asks Missouri repairers to contact their legislators and express their opposition to MO S. 17.

To send a letter in opposition to the safety inspection repeal legislation in Missouri, and to view the full text of MO S. 17, visit ASA's legislative Web site, www.TakingTheHill.com.

If passed, the repeal of the state safety inspection program will become effective Jan. 1, 2008.
