ASA Calls for Industry Support
of the Damaged Vehicle Information Act

Collision Repairers Encouraged to Contact U.S. House

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 16, 2006 - The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is urging collision shop owners to contact their U.S. representatives asking that they co-sponsor H.R. 6093, the Damaged Vehicle Information Act.

Introduced by U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and also supported by eight other U.S. congressmen, this legislation would call for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to require the disclosure of all information pertaining to the fair market value and safety of damaged vehicles.

Stearns and U.S. Rep. Gene Green, D-Texas, have drafted a "Dear Colleague" letter urging other members of the U.S. House of Representatives to sign on as co-sponsors of H.R. 6093.

Bob Redding, ASA's Washington, D.C., representative, said, "There is still time left in this session of Congress to move the total loss legislation. We hope the bill can come to the floor after the elections."
