CARS 2005 Session to Address 'Super Warranty' Issues

BEDFORD, TEXAS, July 5, 2005 - The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced a two-hour session preceding the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) to examine the far-reaching consequences of "super warranty" legislation. Several states have already approved legislation or regulations, and more are considering it.

Titled "The Impact of Super Warranties on Your Business," the session will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Discussion topics will include the impact of 15-year/150,000-mile emissions warranties on the independent automotive repair business. A panel discussion on the regulation and implementation issues of super-warranty legislation will be included, as well as a question-and-answer segment.

"Since the California regulations on warranties for partial low-emissions vehicles, other states have been moving toward increasing warranty options for low-emissions vehicles. ASA has been involved at the state level to protect the future of independent repairers, but it is important that repairers have a broad, long-term view of what all of this means to the future of the independent repairer," said Bob Redding, ASA's Washington, D.C., representative. "ASA's goal for this CARS program is to ensure that repairers have the latest information on this issue and continue to develop policy that will protect the viability of the independent repair industry."

CARS 2005 will be held Nov. 3-5 at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Sponsored by the Automotive Service Association's Mechanical Division, CARS is an official event of Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week. The premier gathering for automotive service professionals, CARS is unmatched in regard to management seminars, technical courses and its exhibitor showcase.

The theme of CARS 2005 is "Tool Chest for Success." The event will offer cutting-edge technical training and AMI-approved management courses, the CARS exhibitor showcase offering the latest in automotive products and services, and automobile manufacturers will be on hand to present new product technology seminars.

Additional information about CARS 2005, including schedules and online registration, is available on the official CARS Web site, www.CARSonline.org.
