Seven technical courses were presented Friday and Saturday during CARS.

Popular ABS Service Tips
Instructor: Wally Marciniak, Brake Parts Inc./NAPA

Class Code: Tech 1 - Friday, 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

This program provided the technician with the latest information for commonly asked questions on ABS system operation, diagnostic procedures, trouble code retrieval and clearing, bleeding procedures, service tips, and tricks to make your jobs easier. Attendees learned service, diagnostic and repair procedures that few people know - unpublished information that has been field-proven by experienced technicians.

Electronic Climate Control
Instructor: Jeff Masterman

Class Code: Tech 2 - Friday, 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Attendees experienced a high-tech presentation featuring interactive learning as they practiced diagnostic procedures designed to uncover the root cause of problems in electronic climate controls. In this course, they learned the diagnostic capabilities of manual and automatic climate control systems used on late model vehicles. Also, how to differentiate between A/C refrigerant system problems and control system problems.

This course was targeted to the intermediate level technician. Participants had base knowledge and experience diagnosing and repairing A/C systems.

DaimlerChrysler OBD II
Instructor: Joe Di Fede, DaimlerChrysler Corporation

Class Code: Tech 4 - Friday, 2:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

The DaimlerChrysler OBD II seminar covered the major monitors required by the EPA as they pertain to Chrylser, Plymouth, Dodge, Dodge Truck, and Jeep vehicles. Topics of discussion included enabling criteria to run the monitors, and the results the PCM is looking for to successfully set the readiness indicator. Also covered were troubleshooting techniques to help with the successful resolution of OBD II related complaints, as well as DaimlerChrysler specific technologies such as Leak Detection Pumps. Toyota/Honda Driveability Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

This course gave the technician an overview of common failures and proven fixes on Honda and Toyota Engine Management and Emission Control systems. Topics covered in the course included:

Scan Tool Graphical Interface
Instructor: Jim Linder, Linder Technical Services
Class Code: Tech 10 - Saturday, 2 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

The latest class from Linder Technical Services! Scan Tool Graphical Interface takes today's scan tools to the next level. All makes of scan tools will be put through a case study using the scan tool connected through a personal computer. Paper sales, waveform storage and record features will be discussed for each brand of scan tool.

This course also covered shop technician terminals - teaching technicians how to utilize their own terminal in your shop.

PCM Internal Strategy
Instructor: Andy Prasad, SPX/OTC
Class Code: Tech 11 - Saturday, 2 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

Advanced OBD II strategies course, focused on the PCM, looked at conditions that set codes. It helped attendees better understand the inner workings of PCM so they won't have to fight the software. Course participants learned about the Directly Proportional Logic Table that the PCM uses to maintain a clean tail pipe to meet and exceed federal emission standards.

Prerequisites for this course included full knowledge of OBD I, familiarity with different graphing software, and an understanding of Ohm's Law. Participants were also familiar with scan tool data stream information.
