I-CAR Canvass Review Process Underway
Several hundred members of the collision repair industry are participating in the canvass review process for the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) Uniform Procedures for Collision Repair. Their goal is to make each procedure more usable by the industry. When reviewing the procedures, the canvass committee checks for technical accuracy of graphics, step-by-step procedures and guidelines that are listed. The committee also checks each procedure for thoroughness in 12 areas: description, purpose, referenced documents, equipment and material requirements, damage analysis, personnel safety, environmental safety, vehicle protection, repair procedure, use of recycled (salvage) parts, inspection and testing, and definitions.To participate in the Uniform Procedures for Collision Repair canvass review process, call the I-CAR Tech Center at (800) TECH-990 (832-4990).
Annual Poll Reports Technician Concerns
A recent poll of American technicians reports that 99 percent of the respondents feel that today's automotive technology is increasing the need for qualified automotive technicians. Forty-four percent somewhat agree that new and recently trained technicians from today's technical schools are adequately prepared to work as professional automotive technicians. However, only 11 percent strongly agreed. Now in its fourth year, the survey was conducted by The Valvoline Company in conjunction with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). A national sample of 200 ASE-master technicians were surveyed.PPG Opens Business Development Center Near Pittsburgh
PPG Automotive Refinish will open a new Business Development Center in September in Warrendale, Pa. PPG operates 20 such centers in North America. The 7,500-square-foot facility will offer a full range of courses tailored to professional refinish technicians, collision center managers and paint distributors. The facility is expected to accommodate more than 1,000 students in its first year of operation, serving industry professionals in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland. In 1995, more than 13,000 collision repair industry professionals attended PPG training courses.GO/DAN Industries Announces Acquisition Of Rahn Industries
