How's Your Business?Posted 9/9/2003By Denise Caspersen How is your business doing? What's the average repair order amount? How many technicians per bay? How many bays? Did business increase or decrease nationally last year? How much are other employees earning? How many independent repair businesses are there in the United States and how do they stack up compared to the service departments of dealerships? What's a baseline for advertising spending and which type of advertising works best? Who's paying for employee education and how much training are they receiving annually? What benefits should a successful business offer? What industry issues should I be aware of? Where do the answers to such questions come from? You. In mid-August, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) randomly selected 1,000 mechanical and 1,000 collision businesses to complete the 2003 "How's Your Business?" survey. This survey provides the answers to the above questions along with many others. All surveys are anonymous and each survey counts. So, if you received a survey and have sent it back, a big thanks from ASA. If you have a survey sitting on your desk among other mail and daily tasks, please know that your response is essential in producing an accurate picture of the repair industry. If you have tossed your survey, please contact ASA by calling (800) 272-7467, ext. 236, and another survey will be forwarded right away.
