ASA-Florida Reaffirms Position
The Automotive Service Association of Florida issued a statement that reaffirms its position regarding imitation crash parts. "ASA-Florida supported crash parts legislation during the last legislative session and we continue to believe that this is a critical consumer issue," said Tom Prescott, ASA-Florida vice president of the collision division.During the 1996 Florida legislative session, the affiliate was instrumental in having legislation introduced that sought to protect Florida consumers against losses incurred by the forced use of aftermarket crash parts in the vehicle repair process. The bills supported by ASA-Florida called for increased disclosure, as well as consent by the consumer to the use of imitation crash parts in the repair of the vehicle.
Many collision repair associations in Florida support ASA-Florida's position including the Brevard Auto Body Association, the Florida Auto Body Association (FABA) and the America's Collision Repair Association (ACRA). "We can see virtually all of our industry's organizations coming together to address this issue," said Don Toomey, ASA-Florida executive director.
