Oklahoma Chapter Provides Informative Meetings to Members

For more than 10 months, the reorganizing ASA-Oklahoma City chapter has provided informative meetings to area members. Beginning in February the chapter hosted Chuck Sulkula and Jeff Hendler for the four-hour seminar, “Chose to Win.” This meeting attracted more than 95 attendees. In May the chapter offered the two-day seminar, “Process to Profits,” also taught by Sulkula and Hendler. The June meeting gave members the opportunity to hear from an information provider. In addition to a sales presentation, a question and answer session was held.

“Since just prior to NACE 2000, we have been attempting to gather enough information on material capping that is taking place in our state,” said Gary Wano, Jr., chapter president. As a result, the July meeting featured State Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher. The response of the commissioner and the attendees was overwhelming, according to Wano. Due to this positive response, Commissioner Fisher invited members to his office on Sept. 11, to present their concerns on material capping.

The chapter's August meeting offered the Masters “Nuts and Bolts of Estimating” seminar. The seminar, taught by Dave Dunn, March Taylor and Natalie Kessler, was an “eye-opener” to many of those in attendance, Wano said.

The September meeting was a follow-up to the July meeting. Following the meeting with Commissioner Fisher, members heard from Dan Risley, executive director of the Society of Collision Repair Specialists.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 16 during which a representative from the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division will explain compensation laws. As always, all industry members are invited to attend this informative meeting. For more information on the upcoming meeting, contact Gary Wano, Jr. at (405) 751-1337.

The chapter is steadily growing and offering area members quality, informative meetings. “We owe a great deal to the refinishing manufacturers and jobbers who have supported us. The chapter is grateful to Sherwin-Williams, Akzo Nobel, DuPont Performance Coatings, and B & H Paint Suppliers. Their continued support has made our chapter meetings possible,” said Wano.

In addition to Wano, Brian Key, chapter vice president, and Jim Davis, chapter secretary/treasurer, will continue to move the chapter forward.
