Clearing House for Speakers

Locating a knowledgeable automotive speaker is about to become as easy as logging on the Internet. The Women's Board, a professional organization of the Car Care Council, recently began hosting the National Automotive Speaker's Bureau.

Applicants for the bureau are asked to submit their subjects of expertise along with a resume, photo and references.

The bureau has been formed to help speakers and meeting organizers locate one another, provide local speakers who can make presentations in their communities, recruit and retain skilled people for the industry, improve the image of the automotive industry, educate customers and parents about automotive careers, raise scholarship funds for students interested in automotive careers, and educate consumers on automotive issues.

Companies or individuals interested in the Speaker's Bureau should call the Car Care Council at (800) 466-5343.

ASA-Oregon Sets Up Employee Placement Service

ASA-Oregon is developing an employee placement service for its members that acts much like an employment agency. The affiliate has placed numerous ads in several publications, as well as established a network with agencies and community colleges that will begin providing candidates for employment.

ASA-Oregon members can fax, e-mail or call the affiliate office with potential employee requests. The office then checks its database of people looking for employment in the automotive service industry. If a likely candidate is found, the shop is notified and given the information of the potential employee. This benefit is offered to affiliate members at no charge.

NATIONAL NEWS

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) and GE Capital announced a new ASA member benefit, CarCareONE 90 Days Same as Cash. The program began for ASA members on Sept. 1. Because the program offers a range of customer benefits, ASA member shops that elect to participate in the program may see increases in the average ticket price and customer loyalty. Among the many advantages CarCareONE provides customers of ASA shops is the ability to finance repairs and deductibles costing $150 or more.

The CarCareONE Credit Card may be used for any product or service (except warranties) sold in an ASA shop. And, the cards are accepted nationwide, creating a network of ASA shops to serve customers as they travel.
