ASA Washington Representative Meets With Pennsylvania Clean Air Stakeholders

Automotive Service Association (ASA) Washington Representative Bob Redding met with members of the Southwest Pennsylvania Ozone Stakeholders Working Group to discuss a proposal to restrict the sale of automotive refinish products to qualified auto repair technicians. The working group consists of parties with an interest in Pennsylvania's air quality protection program, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Pennsylvania Departments of Environmental Protection and Transportation, AAA, the Sierra Club and a range of steel, gas, coal, oil and utility companies. ASA is committed to working with state legislatures and regulatory agencies on efforts to effectively protect the environment while minimizing the compliance and cost impact to small business. ASA-Pennsylvania is represented on the group by Jim Bastone, ASA-Pennsylvania Mechanical Division director and owner of Bastone Auto Service in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Ashland To Replace Its California Fleet With Methanol Cars

Supporting clean air initiatives, Ashland Chemical Company has begun replacing its corporate fleet of cars in California with methanol Ford Taurus Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFVs). For the California fleet of about 40 vehicles, the company expects to purchase about 20 FFVs as replacements during the 1997 model year.

CARQUEST Announces Award Finalists

Seven of 10 finalists for the 1996 CARQUEST Excellence Award are Automotive Service Association member businesses. CARQUEST Corp. presents the award each year to recognize repair facilities for their commitment to service excellence and enhancing the image of the professional technician. ASA member businesses named as finalists include: Central Service & Repair, Addison, Ill.; Grease Pro Auto Center, Panama City, Fla.; Osceloa Garage, Baldwin Place, N.Y.; R & M Automotive, Newington, Conn.; Stan's Tire & Auto Service Center, Lafayette, Colo.; Stock's Underhood Specialists, Belleville, Ill.; and Superior Auto Service, Bryan, Texas.

Keystone Completes Two Acquisitions

Keystone Automotive Industries has completed the acquisitions of two distributors of aftermarket automotive collision replacement parts. The company acquired Augusta Bumper & Glass in Augusta, Ga., and the assets of two Body Max distribution stores from Chattanooga, Tenn., and Atlanta, Ga.
