AMI Announces NACE, CARS
Scholarship Winners

AMI ASRW CARS NACEEight automotive professionals are receiving scholarships to attend either the Congress of Auto Repair and Service (CARS) or the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE).

Five recipients are attending CARS; three recipients, NACE.

Each scholarship recipient will receive $1,000 to apply toward expenses for attending the events.

The NACE scholarship recipients are:

Terri Neely
Terri Neely

Terri Neely, director of operations for Nagy's Body & Frame Inc., Doylestown, Ohio. She is the recipient of this year's Emil Stanley Merit Award. Her winning the award was announced by the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) and the Automotive Service Association (ASA).

The award honors Emil Stanley, who was publisher of Automotive Body Repair News (ABRN) until his death in 1989. Stanley was committed to strengthening professionalism of the collision repair industry through education. He was a strong advocate of NACE, the world's largest collision repair event.

John Fugate
John Fugate

John Fugate, estimator, Lehman's Garage Inc., Savage, Minn.

He is the recipient of this year's BodyShop Business Magazine scholarship.

His winning the scholarship was announced by AMI and Babcox Publications, which publishes BodyShop Business.

Scott Schaefer
Scott Schaefer

Scott Schaefer, body shop manager of Schaefer Autobody, St. Louis.

He is the recipient of this year's Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship.

His winning was announced by AMI and ASA.

Cossette owned Lehman's Garage in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a charter founder of AMI and a $50,000 Charter Counselor contributor to AMI'S resource development effort, EXCEL. He was awarded an honorary Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation in 1997 to recognize his commitment and dedication to AMI. He also held numerous leadership positions on the ASA board of directors and was active in several industry organizations until his death in 2002.

Westerlund owned and operated Gale's Auto Center in Blaine, Minn., and was a $25,000 Guarantor contributor to EXCEL. He also held numerous leadership positions on the ASA board of directors and was active in several industry organizations until his death in 2002.

The CARS scholarship winners include:

Chris Pfefferle
Chris Pfefferle

Chris Pfefferle, manager, Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service, Fairfield, Ohio.

Pfefferle is the recipient of the Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes a management-oriented member of ASA's Mechanical Division.

His announcement was made by AMI in conjunction with Babcox Publications.

Bill Langton
Bill Langton

Bill Langton, owner, Primary Auto Care Inc., State College, Pa.

Langton is the winner of the Zurich "High Octane" scholarship.

His announcement came from AMI in conjunction with Zurich, which provides property, casualty and specialty insurance and risk management solutions to businesses.

Daniel Levin
Daniel Levin

Paul Burgard, John Bydlon and Daniel Levin, the recipients of the Automotive Video Inc. (AVI) Education Scholarship.

Their announcement was made by AMI in conjunction with AVI.

The AVI Educational Scholarship was established by EXCEL (AMI's resource development program), in conjunction with AVI, a leader in automotive diagnostic and repair training programs for automotive repair professionals. The scholarship is based on proceeds from "Casino Night," a fundraising effort held during AVI's annual training conference. This year's event funded the three scholarships to attend CARS 2009.

Burgard (not pictured) is a service adviser for Wittneben Auto Service in Sheboygan, Wis. Bydlon is a technician for Auto Electric Co. in Robbinsdale, Minn. And Levin is a manager for Pellman's Automotive in Boulder, Colo.

CARS and NACE will be held in Las Vegas Nov. 4-7 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
