ASA Member Earns ASE Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition

Peak Automotive, Apex, N.C., has been added to the elite list of automotive repair facilities recognized as the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence's (ASE) Blue Seal of Excellence facilities. This recognition is attained when 75 percent of a facility's technicians are certified through ASE and when there is at least one ASE-certified technician in each area of service the facility offers. Peak Automotive surpassed the required 75 percent by having 100 percent of its technicians ASE certified.

Peak Automotive is also the only Bosch Authorized Service Center in the Apex/Cary, N.C., area and has been an ASA member since 2004. Brian and Kim Walker, owners, moved the business to Apex from Raleigh in 2004.

New Hampshire Member Named 2006 NAPA/ASE Tech of the Year

NAPA Auto Parts and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) named Michael Lavoie, Haverhill, N.H., the 2006 NAPA/ASE Technician of the Year. Presented annually by NAPA and ASE, the award is given to a technician who exemplifies excellence and achievement in the industry. A panel that includes former winners, automotive trade media and ASE selects the winner.

Lavoie, owner of Lavoie's NAPA AutoCare Center, has more than 25 years experience and is continually building on his personal skills and the shop's products and services. He possesses 34 ASE certifications, and his facility is an ASE Blue Seal of Excellence shop. Lavoie also invests in his employees and has an ASE master-certified technician and ASE certified service writer on the staff.

This year marks the eighth instance that Lavoie has been nominated by NAPA New England for the NAPA/ASE Technician of the Year award. In addition, Lavoie and his shop have been honored in the past by AAA as the New Hampshire Facility of the Year. He has been an ASA member since 2003.

NATIONAL NEWS

ASA has launched a Web site designed specifically to help mechanical and collision shops that have been affected by the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Web site is accessible at asashop.blogspot.com or through ASA's home page at www.asashop.org.

"Our neighbors, friends and members in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and elsewhere are truly suffering in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita," said Ron Pyle, ASA's president and chief staff executive. "I highly encourage our industry to contribute resources to the hurricane relief effort."

The Web site offers ASA members and other industry professionals the ability to post ways they can help those businesses affected by the disaster. ASA is asking for those who are willing to offer business assistance, or donate shop equipment or other necessities, to visit the Web site and post those offerings. Those who have been affected by the hurricane can post their needs on the Web site as well. Links to sites accepting monetary contributions to the overall relief effort are also available on the Web site.

ASA thanks all those individuals, members and industry partners for their continued support of the relief effort.

Reminder of the Month

For the 2006 ASA board of directors elections, ASA members will have the opportunity to cast their votes for candidates either by telephone or on the Internet from Jan. 2-Feb. 28, 2006.

Members can access the electronic ballots by calling a toll-free telephone number or logging onto a secured Web site. Once members have phoned in or entered the Web site, they will vote by entering their member number plus a three-digit security code number following the prompts. These numbers can be found on the mailing labels of the December 2005 and January and February 2006 issues of AutoInc. The member number and security code are directly above the addressee's full name and enclosed by parentheses ( ). Example: (123456 789).

All regular members in good standing with ASA are eligible to cast their vote for the position of ASA general director. Only members of the collision and mechanical divisions separately elect the positions of division director. Members were assigned to the appropriate divisions based on information provided by the member when they joined the association. The voting process will guide each member through the necessary steps to vote for general director and the appropriate division director.
