The Ford product line for 1951 incorporated a warmed-over version of the new body that had been introduced in 1949. The heavy chrome grille bars were very much in keeping with the '50s era, and the chartreuse color fit right in, as well. Our cover car is a Canadian Ford, so it carries the name “Meteor,” and has many trim items that are different from U.S. production cars. But the engine is the same, a 239.4 cubic-inch flathead V-8 producing a rated 100 horsepower, and driven through a three-speed transmission with optional overdrive. The car was restored in 1998 and is owned by Ruben Wacker. AutoInc. purposely selected a 1951 car for the cover of this issue because it ties in with ASA's 50th anniversary. 1951 was the year the association started.
