The Northwest Automotive Industry Tradeshow (NAIT), held Sept. 21-22 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall in Tacoma, Wash., attracted more than 3,100 attendees. NAIT is sponsored by ASA-Washington.
The two-day event offered nine seminars including four Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars and five technical courses. The tradeshow was also a big draw for attendees, offering a variety of industry-related items and services.
NATA joined the Oregon Environmental Council and the Department of Environmental Quality in developing the mercury reduction project after learning about the levels of mercury found in cars and the impact mercury has on the health of Oregon's communities. NATA member businesses plan to reduce the level of mercury released by replacing mercury switches with non-mercury switches during a vehicle's regularly scheduled maintenance. Member shops participating in the project will perform the service at no additional charge to the customer.
Currently a pilot program is under way to critique the program before it is officially launched later this fall. NATA member businesses participating in the pilot project include Bob Anderson, AJ's Auto Repair, Salem; Kurt Garbe, Esquire Motors, Portland; and Jim Houser, Hawthorne Auto Clinic, Portland.
The chapter, aided by Dan Risley of SCRS, created a spreadsheet and provided additional documents to explain its position on the paint material caps issue.
The chapter is hopeful that Commissioner Fisher will address this issue as a result of their meeting.
This year's event provided attendees with the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminar, Mastering Service Sales. The conference also gave attendees the opportunity to view the latest automotive repair products and services.
The conference closed with speakers John Scully, ASA national vice president of membership, and Alyce Kemp-DeWitt, a renowned motivational instructor. The induction of the associations' board of directors was also conducted.
The ASA board of directors' elections will be held Jan. 14 to Feb. 28, 2002. The official notification of ASA members seeking board positions appeared in the October issue of AutoInc.
The candidates are seeking election to one position as general director, one position as Collision Division director, and one position as Mechanical Division director. All ASA national members in good standing are eligible to vote for the position of general director. The positions of Collision Division and Mechanical Division directors are elected by their respective divisions only. Members were assigned to the appropriate divisions based on information provided by the member when they joined the association.
