Making Information Available

Posted 11/13/2000
By Howard Lewis, AAM

Howard Lewis The Automotive Service Association (ASA) Board of Directors held its fall meeting in September. For your information, the names of the board members can be found on the right side of this page.

There are 12 voting members on the board, all volunteers. Each of us earn our living every day in our shops. The board is representative of ASA. We come from all sections of the United States. We have collision shop owners, mechanical shop owners, and a couple of members who have both types of shops. Some board members have large shops and multiple locations, while others have a single location.

This cross section of members makes it possible for the board to effectively represent the entire association. As members ourselves, we place a premium on knowing how ASA conducts business, how it decides to allocate funds to further our industry. Every member has the right to full access in the governance of ASA.

With that in mind, the board has directed the national staff to post the approved minutes from the board meetings online. These can be found in the Members Only section of the ASA Web site (www.asashop.org).

During its fall meeting, the board approved the association's 2001 Federal and State Legislative Objectives. As the major automotive trade association, it is our obligation to fight - in Washington, D.C., and in the state capitals - for the automotive service industry and automotive service professionals. To find out what our primary legislative goals entering 2001 are, you may view them in the online Legislative section. They will also be published in the January issue of AutoInc.

ASA recently completed its annual IRS tax return. So that every member may have access to this information, the entire return can be accessed in the Members Only section of the Web site.

In May, you received a copy of the ASA Annual Report. That report was also placed on the ASA Web site and may be viewed anytime by members.

It is your right, as a dues-paying member of ASA, to have complete access to this information. That's why we've taken these steps to make it readily available to you. For members who do not have Internet access, any information that's available online may be obtained by calling the national office.

ASA Sponsors NACE 2000
This issue of AutoInc. is our International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) show issue. Although ASA is the official sponsor of NACE, we know there will be many at the event who are not ASA members and who may be reading AutoInc. for the first time.

If you're attending NACE, I cordially invite you to stop by the ASA booth, No. 2550. Come learn about the many things this association is doing to advance our industry.
