NAIT 2000 Has Another Successful Year

The Northwest Automotive Industry Tradeshow (NAIT), held Sept. 22-23 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall in Tacoma, Wash., attracted more than 4,000 attendees. NAIT is sponsored by ASA-Washington.

The two-day event offered seven seminars including one Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminar, “As an Owner Start Earning the Income You Want,” presented by Bob O'Connor. The tradeshow was the big draw for attendees with a complete sellout of 220 exhibit booths offering a variety of industry-related items and services.

This year, ASA-Washington offered a grand prize to attendees — a five-day Hawaiian vacation that included airfare, hotel and rental car. The lucky winner is Steven Smith of Bumper Stop in British Columbia.

ASA-Washington is busy planning next year's event, which will be held Sept. 21-22, 2001, also at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

Springfield Chapter Returns

The former ASA chapter in Springfield, Mo., has voted to rejoin ASA through the ASA-Mo/Kan affiliate. “The Springfield chapter is excited that we are reunited with ASA and represented by one organization for both mechanical and collision members,” said Rick Hughlett, owner of Rick's Automotive. “We are looking forward to moving ahead and growing our chapter as a result of this reunion.”

Two ASA Affiliates Hold Combined Conference

ASA-Georgia and ASA-South Carolina held a joint leadership conference Sept. 8-10 at the Renaissance Pineisle Resort in Lake Lanier, Ga.

In addition to the two ASA affiliates, the Georgia Association of Petroleum Retailers participated in the two-day event.

This year's event provided attendees with the seminar, “How to Make a Great Shop Greater.” The seminar brought together industry professionals specializing in loss control, OSHA guidelines and specifications, and pollution prevention. Speakers for the seminar were Steve Murphy, Universal Underwriters; Rick Speir, The Covenant Group; and Janice Hatcher and Bill Vondersmith, Georgia Pollution Prevention Assistance Division.

The conference closed with the induction of the associations' board of directors and an awards ceremony. Following the success of this year's conference, the affiliates are currently making plans for next year's event.
