2003 ASA Annual ConventionPosted 5/15/2003
The Automotive Management Institute presented a seminar and held its yearly graduation ceremony. ASA's collision and mechanical divisions also held meetings to address industry issues and set action priorities for the association. Thursday evening's raucous Welcome Party was highlighted by a spirited sand castle building contest. Members of the winning construction crew shared a $250 cash prize. During Friday's opening General Session, Frohlich told members the association has witnessed a number of changes in the past year. Ron Pyle was named president after Walter Trapp's retirement, the "beginning steps" were taken for implementing the long-range strategic plan, and ASA secured a service information availability agreement with automobile manufacturers, Frohlich said. "I have had the opportunity to travel to a number of industry events during my term (as chairman) and have many times referred to our association as the new ASA. I sincerely believe this is true. We stand on the threshold to a great tomorrow," Frohlich said. In his legislative update, Redding said support is growing in Congress for the current association health plans legislation. ASA is actively teaming with other small business associations to push for its passage, he reported. Frohlich transferred the ASA leadership gavel to Kevin Caldwell, AAM, incoming ASA chairman, during ceremonies held as part of the convention's closing Chairman's Banquet.
