  Chairman's Message

What Can We Do For You?

Posted 5/7/2002
By Dan Frohlich, Chairman

Dan Frohlich Hello, my name is Dan Frohlich and I am your new chairman. I hope I have had the pleasure of meeting you in my travels; if not, I am looking forward to the honor in the future. My wife, Sean, and I own a collision and mechanical shop in Pittsburgh. We have been in business more than 33 years and have been involved with the Automotive Service Association on local, state and national levels for 15 years. Having both a collision and mechanical shop allows me insight into both industries.

I would like to personally thank everyone for attending this year's Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. I hope you found it as informative and enjoyable as Sean and I did. If you were unable to attend, I would like to share some of the remarks that I made at the Chairman's dinner:

“Over the past 50 years, our association has had quite an array of chairmen, but most of us have one common thread: We were technicians who became shop owners. My predecessor, Jim Keller, brought something extra to the table. He had also spent time in the corporate world. This experience allowed Jim to broaden the scope and help forge a bright future for our association. Under Jim's leadership, California reaffiliated with ASA, and a number of other former affiliates are taking steps to re-up. Jim's biggest accomplishment, however, has to be the new Strategic Plan. This plan provides a defined direction for future boards and leaders to follow. We now have a map. Thank you, Jim, from me personally and from the entire board of directors.

“I truly believe the total wisdom of many is always greater than the wisdom of one. As your chairman I am not only looking for direction from my fellow board members, but from the entire membership. There is a gasoline company that runs an ad that states 'everyone knows something, and we know gasoline.' Well, if what they say is true, then we, as an association, collectively know more about the auto repair industry than anyone. With everyone's input this can grow from a good association to a great association. First and foremost, we must remember this is a member-driven association. When I joined ASA, I became a member. When I was asked to serve on the board, I did so as a member. As your chairman, I am a member. And, once my duties on the board are done, I will remain a member. Membership is our greatest asset. I am looking forward to serving you as chairman for the next year. Thank you for the opportunity to do so.”

As you can see from my remarks, I am sincerely looking for input from our membership. So, call me: (412) 795-4059; fax me: (412) 795-9673; e-mail me: arsauto@westol.com; or stop me on the street. Just let us know what we, YOUR ASA board of directors, can do for you.
