ASA-Illinois Mechanical Division Provides Education and Tradeshow

The ASA-Illinois Mechanical Division held a training program and tradeshow Feb. 17 at the Technology Center of DuPage in Addison, Ill. The one-day event offered technical courses, as well as a business management program. The technical courses covered topics from OBD II enhanced evaporative systems and coil-on-plug ignition systems to understanding wiring diagrams and troubleshooting, and performance testing with the five-gas exhaust analyzer.

The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminar, “Technician Time Management,” was also offered. This AMI seminar earned attendees 12 credits toward the institute's Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation.

Attendees also had the opportunity to view the latest in mechanical products and services during the tradeshow.

The event was a success with more than 270 in attendance.

ASA-Rockford to Raffle 2001 Harley

The ASA-Rockford, Ill., chapter will raffle off a 2001 Harley Davidson Fat Boy at its annual golf outing to be held July 16 at the Bel-Mar Country Club in Belvidere, Ill.

Raffle tickets are $20 each and proceeds will be used for future member benefits for the chapter. The Fat Boy will be purchased from Kegel Motorcycle Co. in Rockford and the winner need not be present to win. Tax, title, freight setup and registration are the responsibility of the winner. ASA-Oregon Annual Convention and Tradeshow a Success

The 2001 ASA-Oregon Annual Convention and Tradeshow was held Feb. 22-25 at the Westin Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach, Ore., with more than 200 in attendance. ASA-Oregon's goal for this year's convention was to provide attendees with real-life ideas to help meet the ever-changing demands of today's economy. “Great support from our exhibitors, shop members, industry representatives and even Attorney General Hardy Meyers, made this year's convention another success,” said Rick Allison, convention chairman and ASA-Oregon vice president.

The four-day event offered attendees two management seminars: “As an Owner Start Earning the Income You Want” and “Creating the Customer Experience.”

In addition to the management program, attendees were educated on various topics including shop licensing, inspection and maintenance programs, and voluntary business standards programs during the Industry Information Panel. Panelists included Bob Redding, ASA-Washington, D.C., representative; Larry Hecker, president, Motorist Assurance Program; Howard Lewis, ASA chairman; and Attorney General Meyers.

ASA-Oregon also provided mechanical and collision division roundtable discussions and installed the board of directors. Officers for the upcoming year are Denis Renaud, AAM, president; Rick Allison, first vice president; Tom Clouse, second vice president; Mike Buckridge, AAM, treasurer; Liz Dally, secretary; Bob Anderson, mechanical division chair; Susan Ferguson, collision division chair; and Doug Howard, member at large representative.

Attendees saw the latest automotive equipment and products from more than 45 exhibitors.

Reminder of the Month

The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) will hold its annual All-Star seminars, a lineup of 12 business management classes designed specifically for automotive service professionals, June 7-10 at the Embassy Suites in Charlotte, N.C. The seminars are part of AMI's accredited curriculum and will earn students credits toward the institute's Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation. Students may opt to take seminars on all four days of the event, earning 36 credits; on two days to earn 24 credits or one and one-half days to earn 18 credits.
