  Chairman's Message

A Driving Force

Posted 3/15/1997
By Don Seyfer, AAM

At the 1997 ASA Annual Convention this month, I will officially end my term as chairman of the board. The year has flown by and my term as chairman has been rewarding and enjoyable. New friends have been made. Old friends are even more treasured.

Alliances with other industry groups and associations have been strengthened. Within ASA, I have seen our strategic long-range plan take root and start to grow. Through its development and implementation, we have plotted our course for the next five years. This plan reflects our ongoing vision for ASA to advance the professionalism and excellence in the automotive repair industry through education, representation and member services.

Accomplishments are important; who made them is not. The challenges of the independent auto repair sector are numerous. Many issues are on the table and many more are coming. We all have to stand and be counted. We need to forget petty differences and unite as an industry to realize our goals and mission.

I am a firm believer that new volunteer leaders will improve the ASA process. They will bring with them unique and fresh ideas. I feel confident in turning over the wheel to Bob Anderson at the close of the convention, when he will assume the role of chairman. Along with the rest of the board of directors, Bob will tackle future issues and trends with enthusiasm, as well as serve as the voice of the grassroots member.

As chairman, I've enjoyed the opportunity to use AutoInc. as a tool to share my thoughts with you. AutoInc. serves as a forum for information exchange and it is your publication as an ASA member. Through surveys such as the antifreeze usage card found in this issue, AutoInc. serves as a data collector, as well as a data provider.

Through my travels as chairman, I have seen the spirit of ASA make a difference from small towns to large cities. I am happy to say it is alive and well, and continues to be a driving force in our industry.

Thank you for allowing me to drive for a while.
