By 1963, the Impala had become a Chevrolet series containing a full line of body styles, with a full range of engine options, but when first offered in 1958, it had been a special top-of-the-line model only available as a convertible or hardtop. The SS trim option included special emblems on the rear fenders; stainless steel trim inserts on the side, as well as around the taillights and on the instrument panel; and a floor-mounted shifter on a console between front bucket seats. Engines ranged from a thrifty 140 horsepower six to a big block 409 with dual four-barrel carburetors that turned out a rated 425 horsepower. This mostly original white beauty is owned by Charlie Carroll. It has the 283 cubic inch engine, rated at 195 horsepower; a Powerglide, two-speed automatic transmission; power steering; radio; heater; and whitewall tires.
