Heading to Point ClearPosted 3/7/2000By John Mock, AAM As we approach the convention, I must admit that I can't believe it's almost here. The year has gone by so quickly that it seems like last year's convention was just 12 days ago, not 12 months. If you're not planning on going to the convention, I urge you to reconsider. Last year's convention was the best ever, and I anticipate this year's will be even better. In this space I wrote the following after the 1999 convention: I have received countless benefits from my membership in ASA. None have impacted me more, both personally and professionally, than the camaraderie I enjoy with fellow ASA members. While I don't have to be reminded of that fact, it was reaffirmed at the recent ASA Annual Convention. Since joining ASA, I have participated in many conventions. None, however, offered an overall experience as positive as this year's convention. When I think about how incredible the '99 convention was, I cannot wait for the 2000 convention to begin. Last year, everyone in attendance was unified in their desire to learn - to improve both personally and professionally. The ASA Annual Convention provides a great opportunity to become a better technician, a better business owner and manager, and a better representative of our industry. When you gather thousands of years of combined automotive experience in one location, you can be certain some of this knowledge and expertise will work its way into your brain. The bottom line is you will leave Point Clear with new ideas that will make it possible for you to push yourself and your business to new heights. One of the highlights of the 2000 convention will be the keynote address by Tim Brundrett. I have had the opportunity to hear Tim previously and I can attest that his keynote alone will make your participation in the convention profitable. Tim's specialty is performance enhancement. He has practiced his specialty in the business world and the worlds of professional and collegiate athletics. If you've ever searched for ways to enhance your business's performance, here's your answer. Tim understands that to move your business forward, you have to move your employees forward. Let Tim show you how to make this a reality. Other highlights of the convention will be the mechanical and collision divisions' meetings; four Automotive Management Institute classes and the AMI graduation; a report from ASA's legislative representative, Bob Redding; board meeting; affiliate assembly; and the chairman's banquet. There's also an optional golf tournament and a tour of the historic Mobile Bay area. Yes, the '99 convention was incredible. However, it's going to be even better this year. As I wrote last year, of all the great things ASA provides, the opportunity to get together with fellow members at the convention is one of the best, if not the best, benefits we can share. You recently received a convention brochure with a registration form. To register, simply complete and return the form. Or, register online at www.asashop.org. I look forward to seeing you in Point Clear.
