AutoLine Telediagnosis Joins EXCEL 2000
Automotive Information Systems Inc., through its diagnostic hotline service, AutoLine Telediagnosis, has joined the EXCEL 2000 industry partnership of the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) - formerly the Automotive Service Association Management Institute (ASAMI) - with a Charter Governor commitment of $100,000. The commitment helps support AMI's development and implementation of timely management programs for automotive service professionals.
NACE '97 Space Draw A Success
More than 400 companies participated in the 1997 International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) annual space draw. The collision industry exposition, sponsored by the Automotive Service Association (ASA), will take place Dec. 5-7 in Las Vegas, Nev. NACE '97 is expected to have more than 650 companies in over 2,600 exposition booths and at least 30,000 attendees.California May Exempt New Vehicles From Emissions Tests
New vehicles purchased within the last four years could be exempt from California's emissions testing program, known as Smog Check II. The I/M Review Committee (IMRC) determined that late model vehicles rarely were out of compliance with clean air laws. IMRC also said exempting new vehicles would help improve public acceptance of the controversial emissions testing program.Electric Power Steering System Introduced
Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and a division of Delphi Automotive Systems are marketing a newly invented line of advanced electric power-steering systems. E·STEER Electric Power Steering claims to offer improved engine compartment space efficiency, a more environmentally compatible operation, greater engineering flexibility and improved fuel economy. Currently it is under consideration by U.S. and European auto manufacturers for installation on compact models to debut before the end of the decade.DuPont Acquires Carrs Paints
DuPont has completed its acquisition of the automotive finishes business of Carrs Paints, Ltd., a privately held company that supplies coatings to automakers in the United Kingdom.Mitchell International Honored For Support Of School Program
Mitchell International, along with other private companies, was honored by San Diego community leaders for providing significant contributions to the Detwiler Foundation's Computers for Schools program. The foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1991 to provide a pipeline for funneling refurbished and upgraded technology to California schools. At the ceremony, 49 schools received 500 donated computers.PPG Offers Guide To VOCs
To put things into perspective for the National Rule scheduled to go into effect sometime soon, PPG Automotive Refinish has a new "kit" containing information about volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The kit includes brochures covering what a VOC is, how to calculate VOCs, the VOC content of all PPG refinish products and a list of current VOC regulations by state.Toyota Launches Collision Center Certification Program
Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. announced the launch of its new Toyota Collision Center Certification Program. Built around partnerships with several collision repair companies, including PPG Automotive Refinish and ICI Autocolor, the program is intended to enhance body shop productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction.
