Plaque Presentation ASA-Arizona Honors Dedicated Member
ASA-Arizona honored Charlie Echols, AAM, owner of Charlie Echols Auto & R.V. Repair, at his retirement party held Feb. 27. Echols has been an ASA member since 1984 and has held numerous positions at the local, state and national levels, including ASA general director on the national board.

Throughout the party, many of Echols' friends and fellow ASA members spoke about his contributions to the industry and the association. An added bonus of the party was a complete history of his life. Echols and wife, Donna, also received several gifts and well-wishes from party attendees.

A special gift was presented to Echols by Bruce McLaughlin, AAM, ASA national secretary/treasurer, in appreciation for his 13 years of service to ASA, ASA-Arizona and the ASA-Phoenix Metro chapter. McLaughlin was master of ceremonies for the evening.

ASA-Minnesota
ASA-Minnesota will hold its Annual Convention and Trade Show, Sept. 4-6, at the Radisson Hotel in St. Paul, Minn. The two-day event will feature a variety of management and technical education courses for all segments of the automotive service industry. The convention will feature two Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars, earning attendees credits toward the institute's Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation. The trade show will include more than 100 vendors.

ASA-Colorado Show Grows 19 Percent
For the 10th consecutive year, ASA-Colorado held its annual Mountain States Expo at Denver's Merchandise Mart. The expo, held March 8-9, continued to grow at a record pace. This year's attendance saw an increase of more than 19 percent.

Attendees were offered informative seminars and scores of exhibits featuring new and innovative products and services. The expo attracts attendees from all areas of the automotive service industry, including managers, technicians, and parts wholesalers and distributors.

Show sponsors, ASA-Colorado and the Pacific Automotive Show (PAC), annually honor show exhibitors for their original booth designs. Awards were presented in the categories of single booth, double booth, and multiple booth entries. Factory Motor Parts of Colorado won first place in the single booth category. Second place in this category went to Rocky Mountain Engine Dist. First place in the double booth category was won by Rocky Mountains Marketing with second place going to Profit Builder Systems. Among the multiple booth entries, AM West won first place and World Pac received second place.

Joe Suman, ASA-Colorado executive director, said the 1998 expo will be held March 7-8, in Denver.
Refund CheckASA-Washington Refunds Total $553,675
ASA-Washington is entering its sixth year of participation in a retrospective rating plan offered through the Department of Labor & Industries. The group received a check in the amount of $553,675 for the premium year 1995. The check was presented by Richard Weeks, president of Integrated Claims Management and program coordinator.

The program is a financial incentive program designed to reward safety-conscious employers by returning a portion of their workers' compensation insurance premiums. Currently, more than 300 ASA-Washington members have experienced a 20 percent return on their premiums. In all, more than $800,000 in premiums have been refunded to the ASA group. "It is a great program," said Pete Hunt, AAM, ASA-Washington executive director.

Car Care Council Expands Event Planner
The National Car Care Month Event Planner, a working guide for coordinators of this annual program, has been updated for 1997.

The new edition, incorporating ideas and information gathered during the past 17 years, will be a valuable tool for veterans, as well as first-time participants. The council has added several new features to the planner.

Aside from revamping the organizational procedure, the new planner gives added emphasis to promotion. The planner encourages event sponsors to consider working with a beneficiary such as a charitable organization.
