ASA, CIECA Work Toward Electronic Commerce Standards
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Collision Industry Electronic Commerce Association (CIECA) continue to work together closely to bring standards for electronic commerce to the collision industry. With an initial contribution of $1,500 and an additional commitment for in-kind services, ASA will aggressively support and participate in CIECA programs and projects.CIECA addresses development of electronic commerce for the collision industry on a national scale. With its "action teams" addressing issues such as standards for electronic data interchange (EDI), interoperability and imaging, it has developed processes for identifying and prioritizing issues, and then working solutions through a broad base of acceptance mechanisms, such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Russell Verona, AAM, past chairman of the ASA Collision Division and owner of East Rockford Collision Center in Rockford, Ill., said, "We believe this kind of commitment to CIECA’s objectives demonstrates the ASA mission of providing service to our collision repair members."
Roger Cadaret, executive director of CIECA, said, "We are delighted by this opportunity to work together with ASA.
Students Enter Final Phase Of Skills Contest
Some of the nation’s top high school automotive technicians will compete in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Quality Care Challenge on June 17 in Washington, D.C. More than 6,000 students competed in the event at the state level. A two-person team from each state will participate in a hands-on competition to diagnose and repair deliberately disabled vehicles. A total of $3 million in scholarships and prizes will be awarded in this year’s competition.ASAMI Approves Universal Underwriters Course
The Automotive Service Association Management Institute (ASAMI) has announced the approval of Universal Underwriters’ seminar, "How to Purchase Business Insurance." A recent issue of Service Dealer’s Newsletter reported top reasons consumers switch from one service provider to another. A study from the University of Colorado at Denver showed core-service failure, such as service mistakes, billing errors and service catastrophes, as the top reason. The second largest category was service-encounter failures, or failures in the interaction between customers and employees. Judell Anderson has been named the executive director of the Automotive Service Association of Minnesota.
