Communicating With Customers
Check your e-mail often. If you have Internet access at your shop and you have an e-mail address printed on your business cards or other marketing material, be sure to check for e-mail regularly throughout the day. Nothing is more impressive to your Internet-savvy customers than a quick response to their e-mail. Whether you e-mail them back or give them a call, they will undoubtedly be delighted to know that they can reach you effectively via e-mail.
E-mail Lists. Aside from responding to e-mail you receive, you should consider gathering the e-mail addresses of your customers and sending out a monthly electronic newsletter. Include specials, service notices, shop enhancements, new employees, automotive tips, or other relevant information.
Shop Web Site. If you don't have a Web site, consider making one. A Web site is more than an advertising tool, it helps you interact with your customers. Aside from listing your services and specials, you can introduce your staff, communicate business philosophy and make your shop more familiar to your customers.
Online Status Reports. Many shops with Web sites now offer a page on their site where customers can get daily or hourly status reports. You can have a Web developer make a form to enable you to post the reports, or someone who knows the basics of html (hyper text mark-up language) and ftp (file transfer protocol) can easily update the pages at your shop.
Net Numbers
There are 134 million people online worldwide and 2.45 million Web sites.
