Verona's NACE Address
Attendees at the 1995 International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) heard Russ Verona, NACE chairman, give his assessment of many industry issues during his opening speech. Following are a few highlights.
- On the concept of insurers and car manufacturers partnering to offer insurance during car leases: "This move creates a non- competitive market for automotive services and creates a monopoly ... we will not like it!"
- On "shrinking" times in estimating data bases: "Our request is for the information providers to first justify and then notify the collision repair industry of eroding refinish and replacement times ... the message is work with us before, not after, the fact."
- On preferred provider organizations (PPOs): "As long as ASA feels that legalized PPO programs in the collision repair industry are not in the best interest of our industry or our future, we will do everything possible to stop or change them."
- On parts procurement: "Being directed to parts sources because of price and location has a dramatic impact on parts profit ... and not to mince words, that means death to a business."
- On materials caps: "The days of one-year warranties are gone. Insurance companies that offer lifetime warranties through their DRPs should review their refinishing materials price caps."
- On collision repair in general: "It is said that our industry is divided, that we're diverse, that we cannot work together. Well, I have a different view of my colleagues ... I see people who care about CSI, service with value, and who keep a Class A facility ... We have much in common."
