Internet Access Affects Sales

Posted 1/13/2005
By Denise Caspersen

Among interesting facts revealed in the 2004 "How's Your Business?" survey: For mechanical shops, there definitely seems to be a correlation between having Internet connections in the service bay and annual sales.

For example, 19 percent of mechanical businesses with annual sales of $100,000 to $250,000 have service bay Internet access. But 71 percent of the mechanical shops that have service bay Internet access have annual sales between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Having Internet connections in the service bay does not seem to have the same impact on collision repair shops. Although collision repair businesses demonstrate strong Internet usage within the office area, service bay Internet usage (12 percent overall) is limited, regardless of annual sales amounts.

Also interesting: Eighty-four percent of mechanical shops, and 96 percent of collision shops, have Internet access in their offices.
