Correction Notice for the 2003 "How's Your Business?" SurveyPosted 1/16/2004By Denise Caspersen A mistake in the text of the mechanical "Taking a Closer Look ..." chart (found on page 16 of the December 2003 issue of AutoInc.) was pointed out by an astute ASA member. When looking at the mechanical chart, one line is said to represent the number of repair orders per week. This should have been labeled as the number of repair orders per month. Also on page 16, the next line is said to represent the average ticket order in 2001. This is actually the average ticket order for 2002. This should clear up a bit of over estimating and confusion. Something else worth mentioning: If you multiply the average number of repairs per month by 12, then multiply that with the average ticket order for 2002, the result is greater than the annual sales category column in which it falls. Randomly surveyed respondents supply all three of these numbers and therefore variations do occur. The number of repair orders per month and the average ticket order figures are good guidelines, but are not concrete. An additional step added to this year's survey was placing the number of repair orders and the average ticket prices into categories. While reading the survey, look to these areas for greater clarity. Similarly, on page 24 of the December issue, the collision "Taking a Closer Look ..." chart also reads number of repair orders per week. This should have been labeled as the number of repair orders per month. Again, if you multiply the average number of repairs per month by 12, then multiply that with the average ticket order in 2002, it is greater than the category it represents. Random respondents supplied all three of these numbers and variations do occur.
