How Many Vehicles Will You Buy?Posted 1/14/2003By Denise Caspersen Just how many vehicles is the average consumer expected to own in his or her lifetime? Well, according to the 2002 CNW Marketing/Research survey, today's 18-year-old consumer will typically purchase 13 new vehicles during the course of his or her lifetime. That's up from the 18-year-old in 1970 who was projected to purchase 8.4 vehicles. Thirteen vehicles over a lifetime is certainly nothing to sneeze about, considering that 56 percent of collision repair business customer are repeats and 80 percent of mechanical repair business customers are repeats. The majority of the 13 vehicles are purchased after age 39. The CNW survey reports that individuals purchase 3.7 vehicles between the ages of 40 and 49. Those in their 50s purchase 3.3 new cars between the ages of 50 and 59 and consumers in their 60s buy 2.7 new vehicles.
