News Briefs Extra Executive Vice President Leaves I-CAR
Jeff Silver, executive vice president of the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR), is leaving to pursue other career interests after 11 years with the organization. Silver plans to open a CARSTAR collision repair franchise in Mundelein, Ill., a suburb northwest of Chicago. With the current and anticipated changes in the industry, I can see no better time to enter this business than the present, said Silver. He plans to open the CARSTAR repair facility in April.Silver will work with I-CAR and a search committee for the next six months to ensure a smooth transition when a replacement is found. Jeff has guided I-CAR during a significant period in its growth and development, and he has been an asset to the organization and the collision repair industry, said William H. Mayer, I-CAR chairman. We have been fortunate to have him as our chief staff executive and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
ASAMI Approves Shop Management Course
DuPont's S.M.A.R.T. Money course has been approved by the Automotive Service Association Management Institute (ASAMI) for 16 credits toward the institute's Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation. The eight-hour course teaches financial tools, skills and profit strategies for body shop owners and managers. S.M.A.R.T. Money was developed by Jim Erskine, DuPont's Assurance of Quality manager; Dennis Kiyohara, president of AutocheX, Inc.; and TEAM Marketing Group, Inc., a consulting group to the automotive industry.California Deploys RSDs
California's Department of Consumer Affairs/Bureau of Automotive Repair (DCA/BAR) will use Remote Sensing Devices (RSDs) as part of the new Smog Check II program. The vehicle emissions detector combines infrared technology with high-speed photography to identify the highest emitting vehicles. DCA/BAR expects that a total of 10 mobile RSDs will be deployed throughout the state's major metropolitan areas by the end of this year.
