Scot Manna Wins ACDelco Competition

Scot Manna, owner of MB Automotive Inc. in Des Plaines, Ill., won the ACDelco Technician of the Millennium IV competition at the ACDelco national convention held recently in Las Vegas.

Manna, the U.S. North Central Region champion, prevailed over seven other U.S. and Canadian automotive technicians who qualified for the finals by winning their regional competitions.

The eight finalists - whose independent service centers participate in ACDelco's Total Service Support program - competed in a timed, hands-on skills contest and were judged on their professionalism, speed and accuracy in the diagnosis and repair of a "bugged" 2007 Chevy Impala.

ETI Meets with Japanese Automakers

Twenty-four members of the Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI) recently traveled to Japan for ETI's 19th annual Japan Tech Week. The event, co-supported by ETI and the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, included weeklong meetings and discussions with representatives from Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Suzuki, Nissan, Isuzu, Subaru, Hino, and for the first time, Nissan Diesel.

Japan Tech Week serves as an important link to gaining the technical information necessary for ETI's members to develop tools and equipment to continue to service Japanese vehicles sold in the United States.

Shop Brightens Lives of Two Women

White Auto Body in Florissant and O'Fallon, Mo., made Christmas a little brighter for two women in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Neither of the women, single parents working full-time jobs and trying to improve their lives, had reliable transportation. So White Auto Body presented each woman keys to a "new" car. White Auto Body also paid for the first six months of liability insurance and all inspection and licensing fees for the vehicles.

One woman got a 1998 Nissan Altima that had been collision-damaged and purchased from a customer. Employees performed all repairs after regular working hours to get the car road-ready. The other woman received a 1992 Chrysler New Yorker that was donated to White Auto Body by a woman in the community who heard about the program. It required virtually no repairs.

Each woman and her family also received Christmas gifts, groceries and gift cards donated by employees of White Auto Body, Hertz Local Edition, Akzo Nobel Coatings, Sikkens Car Refinishes, and GW Sales. Region 5 Jaycees and a Girl Scout troop donated food baskets.

I-CAR Online Training Hits 2,000 Mark

From I-CAR comes word that the collision industry is obviously saying "yes" to online training with the purchase of 2,000 Online Training Programs since the delivery system was first introduced in August 2005.

"Every day I-CAR strives to give our customers what they are looking for to do their jobs better," said Rick Tuuri, I-CAR director of Business Development & North American Operations, "and our customers clearly agree that Online Training and other I-CAR delivery methods are important to them and to the industry. Collision repair technicians, insurance claim representatives, and other collision repair professionals are using Online Training because it is available at their fingertips and provides high quality, convenient training that's easily accessible and relevant to their profession."
