ASA-Colorado prepares attendees for next century
The Mountain States Automotive Trade Show will be held March 11-12 at Denver's Merchandise Mart. In its 13th year, the annual trade show will feature a full schedule of seminars selected by show sponsors, ASA-Colorado and Pacific Automotive Show (PAS).

Seminars will include various topics of interest to mechanical, collision and transmission technicians, jobbers and management personnel. ASA-Colorado anticipates that ideas exchanged among attendees during the two-day event will keep participants ahead of the pack in financial and management areas. ASE pretest seminars, designed to prepare attendees for the May certification tests, are also scheduled.

A record number of exhibitors are expected to fill the 20,000-square-foot exhibit hall to show off the latest technology in automotive repair equipment and products. For more information, contact Linda Crist, ASA-Colorado executive director, at (303) 202-5231.

ASA-Florida announces dates of Annual Meeting
ASA-Florida will hold its first annual meeting of the new millennium May 5-7 at the Diamond Head Resort in Fort Myers Beach.

The meeting program will include exhibits on Friday and Saturday, an opening reception, and an all-day education training program.

ASA-Greater Kansas City makes plans for 8th Annual VISION 2000
"Racing to Success" is the theme for the 8th Annual ASA-Greater Kansas City VISION 2000 management and technical education program and exposition. VISION 2000 will be held March 3-5 at the Kansas City Market Center and the Park Place Hotel in Kansas City. Mo.

The three-day event will offer attendees a wide variety of automotive repair education including two Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars. The AMI seminars will be taught by Bob O'Connor and Craig Van Batenburg and will earn participants 18 credits toward the institute's Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation. The program will also offer 15 technical training courses on topics such as electronic A/C systems diagnostics, diagnosing electrical accessories, advanced solutions to wheel and tire vibration, OBD II service, and wiring diagrams.

In addition to the education program, the exposition will offer attendees a prime opportunity to see, compare, evaluate and purchase some of the latest products offered to the automotive repair industry. ASA-Washington inspects 1,413 vehicles
For 26 years ASA-Washington has conducted its "Lights-On" statewide program during October - National Car Care Month. This year 13 locations throughout the state participated in the consumer awareness program. More than 200 ASA members and students volunteered their time and effort from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Oct. 9, 1999, testing and replacing vehicle lightbulbs. More than 7,000 bulbs were replaced on the 1,413 vehicles inspected during the one-day event.

John Mitchell to address ASA-Oregon convention attendees
John Mitchell, US Bankcorp's economist, will address ASA-Oregon members during the affiliate's annual convention Feb. 11-13 at the Westin Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach, Ore. Mitchell's high-energy presentation will look at the performance of the U.S. economy over the upturn, which will be the longest in American history as of February 2000, and what ASA-Oregon shop owners can expect throughout the balance of the year. Reminder of the Month
Elections for the 2000 ASA national board of directors will be held Jan. 10 to Feb. 27, 2000. This year the ASA membership will elect members to one position as general director, one position for collision division director and one position for mechanical division director. All ASA national regular members in good standing are eligible to cast their vote for the position of ASA general director. The positions of collision division director and mechanical division director are elected by their respective divisions only. Members were assigned to the appropriate divisions based on information provided by the member when they joined the association.

The voting process is conducted electronically using a toll-free telephone number. ASA members will vote by entering their member number plus a three-digit security code number. These numbers can be found on the mailing labels of this issue and the February issue of AutoInc. The member number and security code are directly above the addressees' full name and enclosed by parenthesis ( ). Example: (123456 789).

ASA annual convention to be held April 12-15 in Point Clear, Ala.

The annual convention of the Automotive Service Association (ASA) will be held April 12-15 at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Ala.

For those who arrive early, there will be activities on Wednesday, April 12. There will be a golf clinic from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a golf tournament from noon to 4 p.m. In addition, there will be a tour of historic Mobile and the Eastern Shore from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Thursday, April 13, attendees will be splish, splashing at the Beach Blast welcome party from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. during which judges will select the best female and male costume. Winners will receive a paid registration to ASA's 2001 annual convention.

ASA Chairman John Mock will kick off the convention in the general session on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Walter Trapp, ASA's president, will deliver the annual State of the Association address. In addition, Tim Brundrett will deliver the keynote address. Brundrett is a performance coach whose list of clients includes athletes from the National Football League, Major League Baseball and the Professional Golfers Association. In addition, AMI president Chuck Groves will give an update on AMI.

The ASA Ascettes meeting, to be held on Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., will be open to all convention attendees.

Collision Division and Mechanical Division meetings will be held on Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Roger Wright, director of insurance relations for Collision Team of America, and Mel Hunke, a consultant, will lead the Collision Division's morning meeting, focusing on successful negotiating skills. During the Collision Division's afternoon session, members of its Operations Committee will give an update on their current activities. Information will be shared concerning the committee's work with paint companies, insurers, estimating systems, salvage issues, and more.

The Mechanical Division will offer two sessions that will contain information vital to today's shop owner. The morning session will provide information on the following topics: With new cars becoming more complex and dealerships offering full-service, what lies ahead for the independent shop? What questions or concerns do you have? Information availability is there reason for concern? What are the pros and cons to shop licensing? In addition, the morning session will provide information on other industry-related items and highlight the 1999 activities of the Mechanical Division Operations Committee.

At a luncheon on Saturday, April 15, Bob Redding, ASA's Washington, D.C. representative, will update attendees on the association's lobbying and legislative activities.

The chairman's reception and banquet will be held on April 15 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. The Ron Lawrence Orchestra will perform a Big Band show spectacular, featuring singer Teresa Anderson. Dancing instructors will be on hand to help you remember all those forgotten dance steps. Later the orchestra will take requests for your dancing pleasure.

Also scheduled during the ASA annual convention are AMI courses. Instructor Richard Flint will teach two courses April 15, "Do You Have What It Takes?" and "Balancing Work and Family." Also scheduled for April 15 are courses taught by Phillip Sidwell, Ph.D. In the morning he will teach "The Lifeblood of a Successful Family-Owned Business." That afternoon he will teach "Developing Successors and Holding Key Employees."
