ASA Urges EPA To Emphasize Best Management Practices In Stormwater Phase II Program
In a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ASA and other affected industry groups urged the EPA to emphasize the use of best management practices (BMPs) for small and medium-sized businesses in its draft of the intended framework for the Stormwater Phase II Program. ASA represents the automotive service industry on an EPA subcommittee created to offer input on the implementation of the program. The EPA established the subcommittee to provide a forum to identify and address issues associated with water quality impacts from urban wet weather flows and other storm water discharges.
Valvoline, Sears Team Up In Three Major Markets
Valvoline Instant Oil Change, a division of Ashland Inc., will set up shop in 20 Sears Auto Centers in the Dallas, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Kansas City areas. If the set up is a success, the companies anticipate operations in more than 150 stores nationwide in the next three years.
ASA-Michigan Awards Scholarship
To help curb the technician shortage, ASA-Michigan has awarded its first $1,000 scholarship to Christopher Faulkner, an automotive technology student at Grand Rapids Community College. The scholarship was established to encourage students interested in automotive repair and the chapter hopes to make it an annual award.
