ASA-Maine Participates In Civic Exhibition
The Chamber of Commerce of Greater Portland, Maine, annually sponsors the "Do Business with Me" exhibition. The exhibit showcases area businesses in a tradeshow-type atmosphere and is open to the public.

The ASA-Maine affiliate participated in this year's event, held Sept. 25 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The group held door-prize drawings every hour and gave away free oil and filter changes redeemable at ASA member-businesses. ASA-Maine members manned the booth and educated consumers about the industry and the importance of selecting an ASA shop. According to Bob Merrill, AAM, ASA-Maine secretary/treasurer, the turnout was good and the exposure was very beneficial for ASA-Maine. The affiliate plans to continue its participation in the show for years to come.

ASA-Washington Industry Tradeshow Sets New Record
The Northwest Automotive Industry Tradeshow (NAIT), held Sept. 27-28 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall in Tacoma, set a new attendance record. More than 5,000 attendees participated in the show and came from surrounding areas including Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia and California, and from areas as far away as New York, Alaska and Japan. NAIT is sponsored by ASA-Washington.

The two-day event offered five seminars including two new Automotive Service Association Management Institute (ASAMI) seminars presented by Bob O'Connor that were filled to capacity. The tradeshow was the big draw for attendees with more than 200 booths offering a variety of industry-related items and services.

Pete Hunt, AAM, ASA-Washington executive director, said, "Seeing this year's large attendance brought back memories of 1985, when we felt fortunate to have 30 booths and 200 attendees. ASA owes this tremendous growth to the many exhibitors who have given us their support over the years and to the dedication of our members' endless contributions of time and effort to make this event a success."

ASA-Washington is busy planning next year's event, which will be held Sept. 26-27 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall in Tacoma.
