Elizabeth Dole To Serve As NACE '97 Keynote
Bringing together "One World. One Industry. One Event." Las Vegas will host the 1997 International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE). NACE '97, sponsored by the Automotive Service Association (ASA), takes place December 4-7, at the Las Vegas Convention Center and proudly welcomes Elizabeth Dole as keynote speaker.

Nationally recognized for her public service work, Dole has led the country's largest philanthropic organization, The American Red Cross, for five years. She has also been instrumental in creating an endowment dedicated to educating and training youth-at-risk. Her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need has earned her the recognition as one of the "World's Ten Most Admired Women."

New Technical Training Courses Introduced By NAPA
The NAPA Institute of Automotive Technology (NIAT) introduced two new self-study technical training courses, the latest in a series of courses designed to help automotive technicians improve their skills and knowledge. "Common European Fuel Injection Systems" and "Effective Four-Wheel Alignment" are now available at most NAPA Auto Parts Stores, or by calling (800) 292-NIAT.

American Standox Supports EXCEL 2000
The Sherwin-Williams Company and the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) announced the addition of leadership support from American Standox, Inc. for EXCEL 2000.

EXCEL 2000 is a partnership of industry leaders, both shop owners and major organizations in manufacturing and distribution, which ensures the viability of AMI's ongoing management education agenda for the automotive aftermarket.

American Standox President Bill Kregel said, "The Automotive Management Institute's master curriculum and accreditation program provides shop owners with valuable information, which ultimately increases their profitability, as well as our entire industry's overall professionalism. Fluke Offers Lifetime Warranty For Multimeters
The Fluke 78 and Fluke 88 Automotive Multimeters now carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. According to the company, Fluke is the only multinational, broadline supplier of automotive digital multimeters (DMMs) to offer such a guarantee.

Mitchell International Releases New Estimating Guide
Mitchell International recently released an updated Collision Esti- mating Guide (CEG). The guide, "Mitchell Parts, Labor, Prices & Graphics Compact Disk (CD-ROM) Book," organizes more that 1.5 million parts, 1.1 million labor lines, and 70,000 illustrations for 15,000 domestic and imported vehicle model configurations. 1996 Vehicle Aftermarket Reaches $132.4 Billion
"Product and service volume in the 1996 U.S. aftermarket reached $132.4 billion in current dollars at user price," reports James A. Lang, president of Lang Marketing Resources, Inc., a research and consulting firm specializing in the vehicle products industry.

User price is the price paid by the ultimate consumer or user of products and services.

The aftermarket product sales for 1996 totaled $97.8 billion with purchased service reaching $34.6 billion.

Aftermarket product volume, which grew 3.2 percent at the user level during 1996, includes all products used in the repair, maintenance and modification of cars, light and heavy trucks, and all other types of engines, boats, off-road equipment, machinery, industrial use and related consumption.

Valvoline Awards Teacher of the Year
Carl Hader, automotive instructor at Grafton High School in the Milwaukee area, was named Valvoline Automotive Teacher of the Year after his two-student team won the 1997 National Automotive Technology Competition at the New York International Auto Show. The winning students, Matthew Anderson and Chris Kalies, competed against 24 other teams from across the country and one team from Japan. The two had to find and fix problems in a Volkswagen Jetta that had been bugged for the contest.
