Educational and Training Resources on the Web

Automotive professionals looking for ways to learn more about their job and the industry should take advantage of the information available on the Web. Although there are a few online courses you can take in automotive service, most of the information on the Internet will help you find out what courses are available, where you can take them and home-study program options.

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is the most widely recognized and desirable certification for automotive technicians. Twice a year ASE offers a series of eight tests. If you pass at least one test and have two years of hands-on work experience, you earn ASE certification. Technicians who pass all eight exams become ASE Master Automobile Technicians. The ASE Web site ( http://www.asecert.org) offers test and registration specifics and general ASE information.

Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) is a great resource for high school and college students hoping to pursue a career in the automotive service industry. VICA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. The VICA Web site ( http://www.vica.org) offers a highly comprehensive overview of VICA, SkillsUSA Championships, career fairs, and educational and technical programs.

Automotive managers should visit the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) Web site ( http://www.amionline.org) for course information on attaining the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation.
