ASA-Mo/Kan. Job Bank a Success

The ASA-Mo/Kan. affiliate has implemented a successful job bank for its members. In its third year, the job bank has placed more than 125 employees. The program is for businesses with positions open, as well as for employees seeking employment.

ASA-Mo/Kan. runs an ad in the Sunday help wanted section of The Kansas City Star and other state and regional publications seeking qualified technicians, service advisors, etc. Interested applicants then contact the affiliate office and answer a series of questions. These questions include years of experience, education, certification and salary requirement. This information is placed in the job bank's database and made available to affiliate members.

In addition, affiliate members may post positions available within the database. A prospective employee contacts the affiliate office and is given the positions available information, including the contact name and number of the ASA-Mo/Kan. affiliate member. The prospective employee then contacts the member directly.

In light of recent natural disasters, ASA reminds members affected by disasters that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers disaster loans to qualified businesses. The SBA offers low interest, fixed rate loans to affected small businesses to help them recover from economic injury caused by disasters.

Disaster declarations may be made several ways, either by a declaration of the president or the governor or any such political division when at least three businesses have sustained uninsured economic injury. The SBA offers two types of business loans, physical disaster business loans and economic injury business loans.

Any business that has been damaged as a result of physical disaster or economic injury may apply for these loans. The interest rates for a physical disaster loan will be set with each disaster declaration, but will not exceed 8 percent. The interest rate for an economic loss loan is currently set at 4 percent.

After careful consideration, the boards of ASA-Oregon, Oregon Auto Body Craftsman Association and Pacific Automotive Trades Association voted to form one organization. The merged organization adopted the name Northwest Automotive Trades Association (NATA). NATA will maintain national affiliation with ASA.
