50 Years Ago...
1951 was a big year for celebrity births. And for those people born in 1951, they are celebrating their 50th birthdays along with ASA.
In the entertainment industry, actress Kirstie Alley was born in Wichita, Kan., Jan. 12, 1951. She is most famous for her role on television's Cheers and the '80s series of movies, Look Who's Talking, Look Who's Talking Too, and Look Who's Talking Now. Singer Phil Collins, longtime member of Genesis and now a successful solo artist, was born Jan. 30, 1951. Collins' most recent work includes the Grammy-winning soundtrack to Disney's Tarzan. Another crooner famous for work with Disney includes Peabo Bryson, who collaborated with Celine Dion on Disney's Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. Bryson was born April 13, 1951.
The sports world also has its stars who were born in 1951. Dave Winfield, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this year, was born Oct. 3, 1951. The late Dale Earnhardt was born April 29, 1951. And a man who would one day cause a stir in both the wrestling and political arenas, Jesse Ventura, was born July 15, 1951.
And finally, Sally Ride, the heroic astronaut who was the first American woman in space in 1983, was born May 26, 1951, the month of ASA's founding.
Through the past 50 years, as so many professionals have made tremendous strides in their industries, ASA has dedicated itself to enhancing the professionalism of the automotive industry and providing benefits to its members.
