ASA And Its Members - Working Together!Posted 4/18/1997By Robert Anderson, AAM
Then there was the passing of the gavel - and what a great job Don Seyfer has done! The "quiet man," who is very focused and detail-oriented, is truly a "task master." The great leaders before Don also deserve credit. The shadow cast by the accomplishments of these past chairmen is tall, and following their example has presented a big challenge for me. First, it is truly an honor to be your newly appointed ASA chairman. I am very proud to have the opportunity to serve you, the ASA members, and this great industry. Since I am not a politician, I won't make a lot of promises that I know I cannot fulfill, but I will do everything in my power to guide this industry - both the collision and mechanical sectors - to a brighter, more profitable and fulfilling future. As a collision and mechanical shop owner, I am very close to many of the concerns and industry issues that affect our day-to-day businesses and livelihood, and understand the personal stress and frustration we feel because of our profession. Along with your ASA board of directors and the entire ASA staff, I am committed to moving forward diligently to resolve the industry issues and abuses that currently exist. But, I am no fool. I know that without your support, we will not be successful. It is essential that all members provide input to me and the board of directors, for it is you we serve and it is all of you who mold the future. Your input is invaluable in determining the direction of ASA. But please do more than simply tell us what you want changed; help us accomplish change! This is a grassroots association and we rely on you for decisive action. Please do not ask ASA to proclaim "war" on any entity unless you are willing to show up and help fight the battles. We can and will make a difference - if we commit and promise to do it together.
In the coming year, we will move forward to carry out the ASA Strategic Long-Range Plan. I envision a very busy year with many challenges. I do not anticipate an easy year and I believe I am up to the task of leading your association, but I refuse to do it alone. In this year and all the years to come, we must continue to grow. We must reach a business plateau that has never been achieved. Are you willing and ready to be counted? Will you go to work and do it? If so, the time is now!
