Transition Means Success for North Carolina Member

In the late '90s the collision repair industry was changed with the creation and growth of consolidation. The mere word “consolidator”" stirs mixed feelings among those in the industry. However, for George Haislip the word meant opportunity.

Haislip and three other prominent shop owners in North Carolina were determined to remain in the collision repair industry and succeed. “We knew consolidation was coming, so we felt it was in our best interest to be a force of four shops rather than stand alone,” said Haislip. In addition to True2Form, two other collision repair consolidators approached the group. However, after reviewing all three of the companies' packages, this “force of four” chose True2Form.

As with many in the collision repair industry, Haislip followed his father into the business. After high school, he worked in his father's frame shop, which later grew into a full-service body shop. “There were just three of us then, so I had a lot of on-the-job training. We did a little bit of everything,” said Haislip.

Haislip currently works for the True2Form Collision Repair Center location in Garner, N.C. The shop has 18,000 square feet and employs 13 techs/painters, two estimators and an office staff of three. In addition to Haislip, his brother, Terry, also works in the shop as an estimator. This capable staff performs 30 repairs per week. Employees have a generous benefits package that includes paid health and life insurance. Ongoing technical training keeps the staff abreast of the latest technology.

Education has been a key to Haislip's success. He earned his Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation from the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) in 1998. He has received BMW factory training, as well as Lexus and Acura training and Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) training.

Association participation has also proved rewarding for Haislip. An ASA member since 1989, he has served as chapter president, secretary and treasurer. On the state level, Haislip has served as ASA-North Carolina vice president and president. He remains an ASA member because of “the power of a national organization to influence and affect government regulation of our industry.”

Haislip prides himself on providing top-quality customer satisfaction. True2Form offers its customers an inviting waiting area, fresh coffee and soft drinks, onsite car rentals and written warranties. These services are advertised through various methods including outside sales, Yellow Page ads and consumer pamphlets. “We have a strong, satisfied repeat customer base also,” said Haislip.

Community activities have kept the True2Form name visible to current and prospective customers. The activities include Chamber of Commerce membership, technical school advisory board participation, and support of the local high school programs. In addition, True2Form supports its employees who are active members of the local volunteer fire departments.

When asked what he likes best about his job, Haislip said, “The long-term customer relations and the development of new and existing employees.” He also believes that what makes True2Form unique is the team of 28 stores providing incredible ideas, support and the ability to create strong relationships with the insurance industry and vendors.

Future plans for True2Form include maintaining a strong workforce and refining production.
