April 2000 AutoInc. Cover
This 1939 Chrysler station wagon was hand-built on a new Imperial chassis by custom body builder Bohman & Schwartz in Pasadena, Calif., for a wealthy outdoorsman. It has an extra gas tank and special electrical outlets to plug in camping equipment. Chrysler styling had taken a big jump in 1939, with a split windshield and headlights built into the newly designed pontoon fenders. The art deco look fit right in with the times and they sold well. This wagon stayed with the original owners for many years and was kept in good shape. The present owner, Wes Aplanalp, freshened up the original enamel paint and varnish, and has driven it many trouble-free miles throughout the United States.
