Michigan Group Honors ASA Member
Ed Carpenter, an ASA member in Lansing, Mich., and owner and president of Liskey's Professional Wheel Service, has been named the Small Business Person of the Year by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. The award is given each year to an outstanding business owner for his or her contributions to the business climate and community projects in the Lansing area. Nominees are judged based on entrepreneurial skills, community service, leadership and character in the business community."[Receiving this award] was the greatest thing, other than my children or training them to take over the business," Carpenter said. "Being selected, I feel as if the whole industry was selected."
Upon graduation from Ferris State College in 1962, Carpenter began working for George Liskey as a service technician. In 1972, he acquired the business from Liskey and adopted a philosophy to surround himself with well-trained, motivated and committed employees. The business employs 21 people today. Carpenter believes in going beyond the status quo to develop new services and markets.
"I believe in setting and achieving goals, hard work and an ongoing desire to make a difference. Now, my focus is to assist my son and daughter in the day-to-day operation of Liskey's," said Carpenter.
New Jersey Managed Care Proposal Is Withdrawn
New Jersey Insurance Commissioner Elizabeth Randall announced that she is withdrawing her predecessor's proposal that would have allowed auto insurance companies to offer a body shop network option. The proposal would have allowed the Department of Insurance to consider filings from auto insurance carriers interested in offering their policy holders the option of premium reductions by agreeing to have their car repaired by a body shop in the carrier's network. Randall said analysis of the issue revealed that adoption of the network option would fail to yield significant premium savings to consumers. Rather, any savings would likely be to insurance companies in adjusting their losses.CARS Heads To Kentucky In September
